Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Pool Liner

Liners don’t fail overnight, but the warning signs tend to compound. Watch for:

• Liner is 8 or more years old
• Visible fading or bleaching across the surface
• Cracks, tears, or seam separations — even small ones
• Unexplained water loss not explained by evaporation or splash-out
• Rough, abrasive texture that irritates skin
• Liner pulling away from the coping or walls
• Persistent staining that won’t respond to chemicals or cleaning

None of these problems improve on their own. A small crack becomes a larger one; a slow leak accelerates. The earlier you act, the less potential damage to the pool shell and surrounding area.

How Liner Replacement Works

We drain the pool and inspect the shell and all fittings before anything else — there’s no point fitting a new liner over a problem that hasn’t been addressed. We take precise measurements, because a liner that doesn’t fit correctly will wrinkle, pull, and fail prematurely.

The custom liner is ordered to spec. Once it arrives, installation typically takes one to three days: the new liner goes in, fittings are reconnected, the pool is refilled, and everything is checked before we leave the site.

The main variable in the timeline is lead time on the liner itself. Custom orders take time, and demand in London, ON peaks from May through July. If your liner is showing signs of wear, booking early in the season avoids the mid-summer rush — and the risk of a failure when you want to be swimming.

Liner Types and Options

Vinyl liners come in different gauges. A 20 mil liner is standard entry-level; 27 mil and 28+ mil liners offer meaningfully better resistance to punctures, UV degradation, and general wear. For most London homeowners who plan to stay in their home long-term, the heavier gauge is worth the modest additional cost.

Pattern and colour options are broader than most people expect — from classic solid blues to tile-effect and geometric prints.
